Target User Groups

The users, for who W-GRASS offers these services, can be from academic or non-academic communities (ie. business, industry etc.), are users without any Grid expertise but with basic IT skills This typically represents those user communities who have compute- and data-intensive legacy applications, for example bio-science community, bio-medical community, chemistry community, engineering community etc. but do not use the Grid.

The W-GRASS team Grid-enables and runs the application using either a Grid portal, or an application-specific portlet added to a Grid portal. Grid portals hide Grid specific details from users, making access and usage of Grid straightforward even for those users who do not have Grid expertise. Users will only need a web browser on their computer, but they will need to apply for a portal account (i.e. they do not have to install any software on their computers). The portal can provide the following services for users: certificate, Grid and resource management, job and workflow editing, execution and management, execution monitoring and visualization, parameter study support, etc.
